The Artistic Director, the ballet master

The National Artist of the Russian Federation, the winner of the Award of Moscow, the Professor of the Moscow State Academy of a Choreography, the Artistic Director of «The Kremlin ballet» theatre.
In 1965 after the graduation from the Moscow Choreographic School Andrey Petrov was invited in the Bolshoi theatre where throughout more than twenty years has acted about fifty solo parts.
Since 1977, after graduation from GITIS (class of R.Zaharov and E.Changa), he starts staging ballets of his own. While dancing at the Bolshoi theatre, within two years Andrey Petrov passed his training at the chief ballet master of the theatre Jury Grigorovich. Andrey Petrov staged “The Guelder-rose” on music by E.Svetlanov, «The wooden prince » by B.Bartok,"Knight of the Rueful Countenance" on music by R.Strauss, "Sketches" on music by A.Shnitke, dances to the opera « Iphigenia in Aulide » on music by V Gluck. In cooperation with the outstanding director B. Pokrovsky Petrov staged an opera-ballet by N. Rimsky-Korsakov "Mlada", many ballet performances in the cities of the Soviet Union and abroad. In 1982 Andrey Petrov became The Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation and in 1985 the National Artist of the Russian Federation.
In 1990 he founded the «Kremlin ballet». The stage of the Kremlin Palace of Congresses - (in consequence - the State Kremlin Palace) becomes a constant home of the new collective.
On this the largest in Russia scenic platform with troupe of the «Kremlin ballet» Petrov staged “Ruslan and Lyudmila” 1992), the "Nutcracker"(1993),"Napoleon Bonaparte"(1995) followed by "Zeus" (1996), «Swan lake» (1997), «the Nevsky prospectus» (1997), «Tom Sawyer» (1998), «the Fantastic symphony» (2000), "Koppelya" (2001), "Giselle" (2003), “the Sleeping beauty” (2005),"Esmeralda"(2006),"Figaro"(2008),"Snow Maiden"(2009),« One thousand and one night »(2010).
In a short time the young troupe gains authority and the international recognition. It occurs because of high professionalism and thought over repertory policy based on its own choreographic style and preservation of traditions of classics.
In 2005 Petrov becomes one of Artistic directors of the “Russian seasons. The XXI century”, along with the National Artist of the Russian Federation Andris Liepa.
Within the frames of this project on the stage of the State Kremlin Palace many interesting premieres were staged: one-act ballet «Dark blue God» on A. Skryabin's music (October 2005), I.Stravinsky's one-act ballet "Firebird" (October 2005), "Tamara's" one-act ballet on M.Balakirev's music (March 2006), one-act ballet "Scheherazade" on N.Rimskogo-Korsakova's music (December 2007), one-act ballet "Bolero" on Ravel’s music (December 2007), a miniature «Afternoon rest of a faun» on K. Debussy’s music (December 2007), ballet in N.Cherepnina's two certificates "pavilion Armidy" (February 2009); one-act ballets: «Chopepiana» on F. Chopin’s music, I.Stravinsky's "Parsley", «Polovetskie dancings» on A.Borodin's music (March 2011).
Andrey Petrov's theatre is based on a substantial literary fundamental principle, talented, emotional music, a maturity of choreographic and director's thought, innovative plastic and stenography. Since 1990 the «Kremlin ballet» was on 67 tours in 30 countries of the world and 20 tours ower the cities of Russia.
The professor of choreography Andrey Petrov successfully combines creative activity at theatre with teaching at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography. He was the chairman of Organizing committee of the International competition of ballet dancers and choreographers in Moscow, the chairman of jury of the All-Russia competition of ballet dancers named after G. S. Ulanova, the judge of many prestigious ballet competitions and festivals.
Andrey Petrov is the secretary of the Union of theatrical figures of Russia, the chairman of the Commission on choreography, a member of creative council of the "Ballet" magazine, the full member of the international Academy of creativity and the international Academy of information. It is awarded with the order «For merits before Fatherland» IV degree, the Honor award, certificates of honor of the president of the Russian Federation and the government of the Russian Federation, an award the «Sacred Blagoverny prince Daniel of Moskow» of Russian orthodox church, the Hungarian medal «For merits in culture», a medal of the Russian Academy of arts, medals of the Russian Federation.
Andrey Petrov is the winner of the award of Moscow (2008) for preservation and development of a classical choreography (performances the «Sleeping beauty» and "Esmeralda"), the winner of the award "Ovation" (2009) for the project «New Russian seasons», the winner of the award of the "Ballet" magazine «Soul of dance» in a nomination «Knight of dance».
