On October 28, 2017, the State Kremlin Palace will host the main event of the year in European dances among professionals - World Cup 2017 (WDC 2017).
The organizer of the WDC tournaments is Stanislav Popov, Honored Artist of Russia, President of the Russian Dance Union, Honorary Vice President of WDC.
World and European championships in Latin American dance held in Moscow lead to the popularization of this program among the capital's dance lovers, especially since the events of this level have been rather infrequent.
The first World Cup was held at the Kremlin in 2013, and in 2017, it is already the second one. The Kremlin floor expects dance duets from more than 30 countries of the world, among whom there will be the strongest pairs of the planet. The World Cup is an open tournament with a large list of participants, including up to 70 pairs.
Professional dancers will demonstrate a variety of European dances renowned for their elegance and harmony.
This day the main stage of the country will welcome the following performers: Arūnas Bižokas and Ekaterina Demidova (USA), vice-world champions Victor Fung and Anastasia Muraveva (USA) - the second strongest pair in the world. There will also be European champions Andrea Ghigiarelli and Sara Andracchio (UK) - a brilliant pair, permanent finalists of the World Series WDC, champions of Germany Domen Krapez and Natascha Karabey, as well as Valerio Kolantoni and Monica Nigro from Italy. There will be well-known dancers representing Poland. This time, on the Kremlin parquet, two strongest professional Polish duets are expected: the Blackpool semi-finalists - Sergiu Rusu and Dorota Makar (7th place), Łukasz and Alexandra Tomczak (10th place).
Russia will be represented by a large ’team’ including the finalists of Blackpool 2017, the finalists of the World Cup, multiple champions of Russia Alexander Zhiratkov and Irina Novozhilova; participants of the WDC tournaments, this year vice-champions of Russia Stanislav Zelyanin and Irina Cherepanova (9th place, Blackpool 2017), the finalists of the Russian championship, bronze medalists Sergei Sutyrin and Natalya Sazhina, Nikolay Govorov and Evgenia Tolstaya (world champions in 10 dances), Ilya and Alena Asonov (Grand Prix of Russia).
At the official tournaments, as a rule the Russian team is joined by the multiple Russian vice-champions Alessio Potentsiani and Veronika Vlasova (8th place, Blackpool 2017), the multiple finalist of the Russian championships, Alexander Ostrovsky with his new partner, Maria Kerentseva, and Dmitry Nakostenko and Alina Oschepkova, who actively participate in various tournaments (finalists of the world championship for 10 dances).
Within the framework of the World Cup, the Kremlin Cup will be held among amateurs of Latin American dances. This is an invitation tournament, and usually, it brings together over 20 strongest duets not only from Russia, but also from other countries of the world. This year, Russian amateurs have new champions - Vladimir Litvinov and Lubina Kuznetsova.
Two orchestras will play in the Kremlin Hall the whole evening. The main tournament of the European program will be accompanied by Dance-Land Jazz Band directed by Honored Artist of Russia Semyon Milstein, and the tournament for amateurs in Latin American dances will be held against the background music by the 7 Winds orchestra under the direction of Honored Artist of Russia Georgy Mousheyev. It has become the event’s tradition to hold dances for the public at the Kremlin Palace to the accompaniment by invited dance orchestras. The organizers of the event prepared a rich program of exhibition performances including Argentinean tango favored by the audience.
In 2017, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of ballroom dancing in Russia, and the 30th anniversary of the Russian Dancing Union. Another significant date is the anniversary of Stanislav Popov, the tournament organizer. These events will certainly be reflected in the program of exhibition performances.
AO Gazprombank is the general partner of the World Championship.
