Andrei Dementiev was our contemporary, his great talent was well known and beloved by many. A man of an incredibly bright soul, he generously shared everything with his readers. Dementyev’s works asserted the ideals of romanticism, humanism, and compassion. The characteristic of his poems is a sharp feeling of patriotism, rejection of the negative traits of the present, bitter irony, lyricism, optimism, enjoying simple things, and love to Russia’s nature.

The range of his works is multifaceted. It includes a novel about Mikhail Kalinin (August from Revel, 1970), as well as lyrics to many popular songs of the Soviet epoch (Ballad about the Mother / Alyoshenka,  Alyonushka, Swans’ Fidelity, Father’s Home, , etc.) which were performed by Eugene Martynov, Joseph Kobzon, Sofia Rotaru, Lev Leshchenko, Valentina Tolkunova and many other outstanding singers.

He did not live to see his 90th birthday in a matter of days. However, he continues to live in the memory and hearts of each of us with the soulful lines of poetry, favorite songs and deep conversations of his  radio talk-show called Turns of Time.

The program may be subject to change.
