Award of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia "The Fiddler on the Roof".
On December 17, the award ceremony “The Fiddler on the Roof” will take place in the State Kremlin Palace.
The ceremony will begin at 19.00.
On the eve of Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia honours people whose activity made a real and recognized contribution to development of the cultural and public life of the country. On these days we remember that the purpose of our life is adding light to the world around. Our laureates bring light to the world every day. They give the light of the good, the light of joy, the light of justice.
The Award of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia was established in 2002. Its symbol is a figure of a fiddler on the roof created by sculptor Frank Meisler as a symbol saying that despite any life circumstances a human must remain a “fiddler of the spirit”, keep up and go on playing his violin.
The statuettes will be awarded in the categories “Journalism”, “Literature”, “Public activity”, “Community life”, “A legend”, “Arts patronage”, “Courage”, “Education”, “Cultural event”, “Theatre”.
Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar, FJCR President Aleksandr Boroda, famous public figures and politicians and popular artists will take part in the ceremony.
Among those who became recipients of the fiddler’s statuette earlier are a legendary director Petr Todorovsky, director, animated cartoon designer Yury Norshteyn, composer Oscar Feltsman, pediatrician Leonid Roshal, head coach of the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team Irina Viner, entrepreneur Roman Abramovich, actor Vladimir Meshkov, academician Yevgeniy Velikhov, scientist, RAS academician Boris Chertok, Moscow Sovremennik Theatre and many others.
