2018 WDC Open World Championship Professional Ballroom (European Ballroom Dance)

27 October

On October 27, Kremlin hosts the 2018 WDC Open World Championship Professional Ballroom (European Ballroom Dance). This is the third World Championship in this standard organized in Russia on the Moscow Kremlin's parquet floor. The first one was held in 2013, and the second one - a year ago.

We could call this period  the time of outstanding dancers Arunas Bizokas & Katusha Demidova (USA).

They managed to win only the first prizes on the Moscow parquet. Having won their ninth title last year, this fall they are surely planning to consolidate their success and their place in the history of ballroom dancing as no dance duet has ever won a world title in European dances 10 times in a row.

This world championship is expected to attract a brilliant cast of dancers. Among them there are multiple silver medalists of world championships Victor Fang and Anastasia Muravyeva (USA), bronze medalists Andrea & Sara Ghigiarelli (UK), permanent finalists of World Championships and Blackpool Dance Festival, including the one of 2018, Valerio Colantoni & Monica Nigro (Italy), as well as Domen Krapez & Natascha Karabey (Germany). This year the duet of Sergiu & Dorota Rusu (Poland) got to the final of the Blackpool Dance Festival, having taken the 7th place, . This world championship is expected to involve the strongest dancers from the UK, Germany, Italy, the USA, Spain, and, of course, beautiful Russian duets, of whom the first and foremost come the stylish and beautiful three-time champions of Russia Alexander Zhiratkov and Irina Novozhilova, who are permanent finalists of the world Championships and Blackpool Dance Festival, including the 2018 one.  At this tournament, Russian duets came close to the final of seven pairs. In the 8th place are vice-champions of Russia of 2018 Stanislav Zelyanin and Irina Cherepanova.  Alessio Potenziani and Veronika Vlasova got the 12th place. One more duet, Sergey Sutyrin and Natalia Sazhina, stopped in the quarter finals.

There is much anticipation to the performances of Anton Netsukov and Anna Rozhkova, 2017 Rising Star International winners, Nikolai Govarov and Eugenia Tolstaya , the winners of the Grand Prix series of the Russian dance season 2017/2018 in the European dances  ,and many other duets. Russian fans of the European program have all the reasons to be optimistic as to the prospects of our duets in this field. Their expectations are grounded in the victories of Fedor Isaev and Anna Zudilina repeated champions of Russia among amateurs, who won the 2018 Blackpool Dance Festival.

Eleven world-famous specialists in the European program representing 11 countries will judge the tournament, and the opinion of one of the judges, the nine-time world champion in European ballroom dance Mrs. Karen Hilton MBE (the UK) will be especially important for both participants and professionals.

Guests of this evening will also see the temperamental dances of the tournament of the Kremlin Cup inLatin American dances among amateurs, the magnificent emotional component of the whole event. The strongest dancing couples of Russia and the world will step on the Kremlin parquet. We will see Mikhail Popov and Veronika Tamarova, the 2018 champions of Russia among amateurs, silver medalists Andrei Patrushev and Ekaterina Bralyuk, bronze medalists Ruslan Khisamutdinov and Karina Yusupova and many other brilliant dancers. Among the guests there will be the best dance duets from Italy, USA, Ukraine, Germany, China, and Belarus. Along with the leading Russian judges, well-known foreign experts will evaluate the performances of the Kremlin Cup contestants: Paul Killick (the UK), Harald Fram (Germany), Gary McDonald (USA), Manfred Wang (China), Marcus Hilton, MBE (the UK), and Mr. Colin Hillary (USA).

For the first time in this country the Russian Championship in American Smooth will be held within the WDC Open World Championship Professional (European Ballroom Dance) .

This is a new program for Russia. Having originated in the United States as the American interpretation of the European Ballroom Dance Competition, today it is spreading actively throughout the world. Over the past few years, American Smooth tournaments have been regularly held in Blackpool. In April 2018, Moscow hosted the first open international tournament in American Smooth among professionals, initiated by Olga Krasnyanskaya and Eldar Dzhafarov.

On October 27, viewers will be able to compare these two types of ballroom choreography in professional performance first at the WDC championship, and then at the Russian championship.
